Fine for Škoda Auto reduced to 36 million CZK

1 Nov 2006

The Office for the Protection of Competition reduced the fine for Czech car maker Škoda Auto from original 55 million CZK to 36 million CZK by its repeated first-instance decision of 28th July 2006.

The company abused its dominant position in connection with leasing. The competitor has appealed also against the new verdict.

The Office started to investigate the case in March 2004 based on a complaint by an association representing leasing companies. Skoda allegedly concluded different contracts with individual large buyers, offering different conditions for bulk discounts to each of them, and refused to sign bulk purchase contracts with leasing companies.
