Drugstore takeover approved

11 Jan 2007

The Office for the Protection of Competition authorised a concentration of drugstore chains Schlecker and Droxi.

Schlecker operates 19 outlets in the Czech Republic but is the leading chain in Germany. It will gain 130 outlets on the Czech market.

ÚOHS also ruled that p.k. Solvent, which runs the drugstore chain Teta, can take over leading Czech toiletries distributor Mistr Distribuce, which distributes Procter & Gamble and Reckitt Benckiser, among other brands.

The Office concluded that the merged entities will continue to face strong competitors on the relevant market, including number of specialised drugstore retail chains as dm-drogeriemarkt and Rossman and retail chains. There is a developed competition environment on the given markets without any substantial economic or law barriers for potential competitors
