Court confirmed 205m CZK fine for telecommunication company

26 Sep 2006

The Regional Court in Brno today rejected the complaint filed by Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, a.s. (former ČESKÝ TELECOM) against a fine of 205 million CZK imposed by the Office for the Protection of Competition for abuse of dominant position in the end of the year 2005.

The company had been fined for preventing customers to go over to rivals by offering them tariffs with free minutes. Cesky Telecom cancelled the tariffs in spring 2005.

The Regional Court in Brno in early August confirmed yet another fine, 81.7 million CZK, imposed by UOHS which said Telecom harmed its rivals when it offered its corporate clients bonuses and discounts.
